Before deploying a New Validator Node

Our Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team collaborates closely with our research department to thoroughly understand the technical details and operational nuances of the target blockchain network. We ask key questions such as:

  • How does the network's consensus mechanism and validator requirements work?

  • What are the staking parameters like delegation periods, minimum stake, etc.?

  • What are the hardware specifications and performance requirements for validator nodes?

  • What are the slashing conditions and other penalty mechanisms in place?

  • What redundancy mechanisms are in place as failovers?

This in-depth due diligence ensures we have a comprehensive grasp of the technical and economic feasibility to operate a compliant validator on the network.

Documentation and Testing

After the due diligence phase, our operations team conducts a dry run to set up a validator node on the network's Testnet. We document every step of this process in to cover all unique technical concepts and operational procedures. This thorough documentation is essential for onboarding new SRE personnel and maintaining the long-term stability of our validator infrastructure.

Monitoring and Alerting

Despite our rigorous setup process, validator nodes can still encounter connectivity issues, resource constraints, and other unforeseen problems. To rapidly detect and resolve such incidents, we've implemented a robust monitoring and alerting system leveraging tools like Grafana and Prometheus. Our monitoring setup not only covers standard node metrics, but also includes custom chain-specific alerts to ensure comprehensive oversight.

Peer Review and Maintenance

Before deploying a validator node to the Mainnet, the entire setup undergoes a thorough peer review by our operations team. Additionally, a specialized team of senior engineers rigorously tests the node's stability and performance. This multi-layered review process helps validate the longevity and robustness of our validator deployments.

Ongoing maintenance is also a critical aspect of our compliance framework. Our SRE team proactively tracks new software releases for each chain and promptly upgrades our nodes to ensure they're always running the latest stable versions with the necessary security patches and bug fixes.
